Workplace Etiquette

(Khmer below)

Most employees spend about an average of eight hours a day. Work is more of a second home because you spend more waking time at work than at home. Whether you are just a beginner or not, you should understand the basics of work etiquette, no matter what your employee experience.

Here are some basic tips to help you get the most out of your work environment.

1. First Impression is the most important.

Your first impression on the first day of work is the most important. You should know the office dress code and office policy in advance. It is important to be professional and not late for office hours. Also, pay attention to your body language. Make eye contact with colleagues. Try to keep smiling and never be afraid to talk.

2. Avoid gossiping in the workplace.

Never speak ill of your coworker. Even if you don’t feel comfortable working with them, never criticize them. A relationship can be ruined by word of mouth. So be careful when talking to your supervisor and manager.

3. Communication is the most important thing.

Since you have to meet a lot of different people in the workplace, email is the record for most of the work processes you are doing. So when writing an email, be clear and specific about what you want to say.

4. Make sure you know the workplace policy.

Depending on the organizations, office policies may not be the same. You should ask the HR department for any policy you want to know, as the dress code and rules are informed by the organization's HR department.

5. Separate your personal and work life.

Be careful about talking about your personal problems. It is true that building a good relationship with colleagues in the workplace is important, but the personal information you share can distort your professional work life. So do not compromise your colleague's personal information. If possible, do not share about yourself.
